ABOUT THE BLACK SPRINGS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

The Black Springs Progress Association held its AGM in April 2018 where a new executive was elected, the association also had a name change. It was moved at the meeting, that the association become an incorporated body, thus giving the community the capacity to benefit from various available grants, therefore enhancing the village infrastructure and promoting community spirit. Due to the rules of NSW Fair Trading a new name had to be established, as Black Springs Progress Association had been an incorporated body in the 1980’s and the name could not be used a second time. The members selected a slight variation on the old name and decided on Black Springs Community Association Inc.

Under the direction of the new executive and with 50 plus members, the Black Springs Community Association Inc is moving forward with exciting plans for the village and wider community.

A heritage group has been formed within the association, to establish acknowledgment of our past pioneers.

On 11th May 2019 the Black Springs community celebrated the 200th anniversary of explorer Charles Throsby and his fellow explorers passing through the Black Springs area on their way to Bathurst on 6th May 1819.  A commemorative plaque and bust of Charles Throsby are now in place recording the first documented exploration through the area. Also, a heritage wall has been erected with information depicting our pioneering families and first settlements. This information was compiled by local historian Alan Hoolihan along with information from Thora Hogan and Paddy Grady Wozencraft.

The Black Springs Community Association Inc celebrated 60 years as an association on 26th October 2019, with a village festival, including market stalls, sporting events, activities for the kids and much more.  It is hoped this festival will become a bi annual event and reinvigorate the community spirit. As many of our long standing residents may recall Black Springs held an annual gymkhana in the 1960’s, with all the surrounding districts participating and these gatherings were beneficial in unifying the village and surrounding districts. It is hoped that the festival will capture the same community spirit.

The Black Springs Community Association Inc  has many new ideas for our community, we continue to grow and improve our village infrastructure and amenities.  The Black Springs Community Association Inc  recently placed new pavement outside our community hall, we are developing gardens in front of the hall and around the Heritage wall. Black Springs Community Association Inc has a new kitchen, stove and fridge in our hall. Our tennis courts have a new surface with a new playground for our young people to enjoy.

Everyone is welcome to come along to our meetings which are held the second Monday of each month at the Community hall at 7 pm.
